CMA Hill Day 2023

The Canadian Museums Association would like to thank all 30 delegates representing museums, art galleries, provincial and territorial museums associations (PTMAs), heritage-focused university programs for joining us as we took to Parliament Hill on April 18-19. Delegates advocated for strong cross-sectoral and all-party support for museums, guided by the fact that museums do not just contribute to heritage, but also to other public policy priorities. The delegation was able to call on government officials to support upcoming efforts to introduce a repatriation framework and to invest in Indigenous communities, cultural centres and organizations, as called for by the CMA report, Moved to Action: Activating UNDRIP in Canadian Museums.

Special thanks to Senator Patricia Bovey for sponsoring our reception and for speaking on the importance of advocacy for museums. We will certainly miss her support when she reaches the end of her appointment and retires on May 15th.

A big thank you also goes out to the British Columbia Museums Association for providing financial and staff support for the event, for their support with reception activity, and for producing a short video on the events and advocacy activities that took place.
