Statement from the Canadian Museums Association

June 4, 2020

As the national association representing Canada’s museum community, the Canadian Museums Association (CMA), we would like to add our voice to the current situation.

Much work has been done and continues to be done by museums in Canada to ensure they can be places that build empathy and understanding for each other and that remind us how diversity makes us stronger.

As a society we need to come together, to listen, to learn and to recognize that there are Canadians who continue to face discrimination in spite of the progress we have made. This time is a moment of reflection which can represent change for a better world.

We commit to supporting our members’ and the museum community’s efforts in this ever-important work. And we commit to ensuring diversity, representativeness and understanding is reflected in our own organization and through our various activities.
