What are the dates for CMA2021?
The conference will kick off on May 3, 2021 and sessions will take place over the course of two to three weeks. We will have more detail on specific dates once the program is confirmed.
What's the format for CMA2021?
The conference will be primarily virtual, with an in-person element if that is possible. CMA2021 will run over two to three weeks, with sessions a couple of times per week, with no more than two or three per day. We will have inspiring keynote presentations, dynamic panel discussions on various critical and technical issues, useful sessions on certain technical issues with ample time for audience participation, and opportunities for networking. The conference will also include our Directors’ Symposium, 2021 Awards Ceremony and Annual General Meeting.
What’s the theme of CMA2021? ?
This year has been challenging, but Canada’s museum community has seized opportunities to adapt, learn, and progress. The theme, Moving forward , is inspired by our President’s call for greater solidarity, connectedness and social responsibility to propel the museum sector ahead. With new insights and experiences, we are creating room for change, gleaning from one another’s expertise, and forging new partnerships so that museums can continue to play a crucial role in society, making significant contributions to our economy and societal well-being.
When does registration open and how much will it cost to attend?
As soon as we have this information available, we will let you know. We are working on a registration cost that is viable for both participants and for the CMA in being able to offer the event.
How do I become a speaker?
If you are interested in presenting at CMA2021, we invite you to submit a proposal. Please check out our Proposal submission form. The deadline for proposals is January 31, 2021.
When will I know if my proposal has been accepted or declined?
We anticipate announcing decisions on proposals on or before the end of February 2021.
My proposal for CMA2020 was previously accepted. Will my session be considered for CMA2021?
You are certainly welcome to resubmit your proposal from 2020 using our online form. We are especially interested in sessions focused on critical and technical issues identified in our announcement and within the form.
I transferred my exhibitor fee or sponsorship for 2020 to 2021. How will a virtual event affect what I receive?
Recognizing that the opportunities will be different for a virtual event, we are working on developing a great package detailing these opportunities for both exhibitors and sponsors and will share it with those who transferred their fees as soon as it is available.
How can I become an exhibitor or sponsor at CMA2021?
Exhibiting and sponsorship is a great way to connect with and showcase your work to the museum community. It’s also an excellent way to support the CMA in delivering much-needed programs and services to the museum community. Thank you for your interest. The CMA runs a bursary program. Can I apply for a bursary to attend CMA2021?
Yes, CMA2021 participation is eligible for bursaries. Please note that we are limited to 5 bursaries for this event, so apply early.
When will you know when/if CMA2021 will include an in-person component and what would that look like?
The pandemic has taught us about the importance of designing programs that are both flexible and responsive. Given the situation, we have focused first and foremost on the virtual conference, which can proceed regardless of the circumstances. Having an in-person element will depend on many factors. As soon as we know more, we will inform you.
