Get your Young Canada Works applications in and take note of recent changes
Ottawa, January 20, 2021 — The deadline for Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations (YCW-HO) has been extended slightly, to February 5, 2021. There’s still time to apply for funding to support your organization and provide meaningful employment in the museum and heritage sector. We wanted to highlight a series of important changes to YCW-HO (employment for students):
- The maximum YCW contribution is now 85% of total eligible expenditures (wages plus mandatory employment related costs), up to $10,000. This is a $2,000 increase over the previous $8,000, and a 10% increase over the previous 75% funding limit.
- Priority will be given to employers whose contribution equals 25% or more of the total project cost.
- Part-time employment is eligible; however, priority will be given to applications for full-time positions.
There have also been key changes to the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCW-BCH) program (internships for young college or university graduates), the deadline for which is March 1st, namely:
- The maximum YCW contribution for internship positions in Canada is either $15,000, or up to 85% of total employment costs, increased from the previous $10,000 and 75% limits.
- The same maximum funding amounts now apply equally to Conservation Science internships (where previously there was a $12,000 maximum).
- For international internships, the maximum YCW contribution is $17,000, up from the previous $15,000.
- Part-time employment is allowed for internship positions in Canada, but priority will be given to applications for full-time internships.
